Power X

Power X is the undoubtedly the strongest, most reliable, and most functionally perfect tyre changer clamping system ever made.

In simple terms, whilst all other conventional tyre changer claming systems use 2 cylinders to operate 4 clamps or ‘jaws’, Power X uses 4 cylinders – one cylinder dedicated to each jaw.

How to conventional systems work?
Traditionally, tyre changers have used two clamping cylinders to operate four clamps. A quadrant or ‘star’ plate under the turntable then drives the two ‘slave’ clamps simultaneously alongside the two ‘driven’ clamps. This was the lowest cost method of producing a 4 jaw clamping system (although there was once a famous brand that introduced a turntable that used 1 clamping cylinder, but we won’t go there!).

What is the benefit of 4 cylinders?
It is fairly clear to anybody reading this that 4 cylinders has to be better than 2, but let’s break it down by each superior attribute.

Power
Anybody changing tyres will have experienced the rim slipping in the jaws under the stress of a tight tyre. Having double the pressure, Power X provides eliminates this problem, even when using plastic jaw protectors for delicate alloy rims.

Consistency
All four clamps slide back and forth in a perfectly smooth and synchronised movement. On a traditional two-cylinder turntable the ‘slave’ clamps become lazy as the quadrant plate naturally distorts with use, and the ‘grip’ becomes even more ineffective and less concentric. This will eventually mean that 2 of the clamps have become ‘lazy’ and are actually ineffective, which can cause all kinds of issues, all of which will result in damaged rims and ripped beads.

Reliability
The elimination of the traditional quadrant plate means there is virtually nothing mechanical to go wrong, and the four cylinders mean the clamping work is shared, halving the workload. This claim is backed up by our 5 year warranty on the Power X turntable system!

Longevity
The introduction of the material from Du Pont ‘Arnite’ (a type of hardened, non-porous and wear-resistant plastic) into the jaw slide mechanism eliminates the traditional metal to metal contact. Incredibly, tests simulating 20 years of hard work in a high volume tyre shop showed no signs of wear or damage.

Functionality
Power X has been developed over time so that is no longer just the preserve of our ‘high end ‘ machines. We now have smaller clamping range versions which are fitted to our standard models which kind of makes them, well, not standard anymore!
