Frequently asked questions
In general, the obvious answer is price. Items that we place on this page are ordinarily models that have been taken to a show, taken out of our showroom as part of a rotating replacement, or could have come back as a part-exchange. There is no doubt, equipment on this page can be regarded as a bargain!
If a product is ex-demo, we will normally sell it with a full warranty. Any reduction in price is to reflect the condition, whether that is slightly used or like new but ‘out of the box’. If it is used, we will generally have done a full refurbishment, which would include replacement parts where required and a thorough service. In this instance we will normally apply a limited warranty that reflects the condition, age and value of the item.
This is a great question, and one that you should always ask yourself, and ask us! For example, if you are new to tyres and don’t want to invest a huge amount on a new venture but, likewise, don;t want to make a bad investment, then a second hand tyre changer or balancer could be a great buy. Just because a high volume tyre shop has upgraded it at, say, 4 years, doesn’t mean that, once refurbished, it isn’t a great buy for you. In our opinion, a 4 year old Italian machine that has been fully remodelled by one of our team is still a better purchase than a cheap new machine made in China. Always talk to us about your circumstances, and we will give you honest advice.
Another valid question, the answer to which may not be as simple as you’d expect. As an example, most reputable Italian wheel balancers have [patented technology that will directly relate to speed, ease of use, reliability and cost of ownership. This means that, even if you buy a low cost brand new machine made in the Far East, it will be at least 20 year old technology compared to an Italian model (patents last for 10 years and can be renewed once, hence the 20 year protection). So there is an argument to say that, depending on your circumstances, a decent refurbished, fully factory calibrated wheel balancer of a good spec could actually be cheaper and better than a new ‘budget’ machine.
It is no different to anything else really, but probably the best analogy is your car. You wouldn’t buy a car unless you knew something about its history, and ideally you would want the reassurance of a recent service or MOT which is why car dealers exist. It is all about common sense; is the supplier the manufacturer (in which case you know you have good support). Is there any warranty (we would never recommend buying any second hand equipment without a warranty unless it is so cheap you can afford to lose the investment if it fails)? Do you recognise the brand (this is very important for parts availability ongoing)? How old is it (compare this with the price of the current version, available new)? The best course of action is to speak to us, as we often have models that haven’t yet made it onto this page yet, or can look out for something that will suit your needs perfectly.
