The legacy, respect and credibility of two heavyweights of the Garage Equipment Industry came together when Giuliano Automotive UK was born.
Giuliano has been manufacturing in Italy since 1976, with a Worldwide reach and long list of notable landmarks that have influenced the industry along the way. Balco is a name that can be traced back to 1984, with a story that saw it peak as a market leader before being ‘retired’ for a number of years, and eventually making a comeback in 2021.2025 saw these 2 great names come together in the UK to form a formidable, progressive operation, run by known industry professionals.

Our mission
We have no desire to be a ‘big’ company. We are proud to be a small, select group of talented and committed individuals with a wealth of experience, each with our own unique reputation built over many years. Focusing on what we do best, which is unequivocally ‘around the wheel’, allows us to provide an undiluted and specialist approach, which in turn provides our customers nationwide with the very best value, advice and after-sales support.
We would argue that our products are the best, and we would stand firm on our belief that we do what we do better than anyone, but ultimately – and most importantly – we recognise that our biggest assets are our customers and our employees. These two elements are what make a business. They go hand in hand, and being ‘happy’ in one compliments the other.
This is the focus of our business. You have the right to assume our products are good and that our service matches that expectation; that is the basis of our existence, but ensuring staff remain and customers come back is what we measure ourselves by.
Balco - The fall and rise of an industry favourite
Following a rationalisation of brands in the early 2000s, the Balco name was retired.
Then, in 2022, one of the original employees of Balco UK who had gone on to establish Hofmann Megaplan UK and repeat the success enjoyed by Balco, acquired the Trademark and set about re-launching the brand, using that same ethos for ingenuity and offering something ‘different’ to a market that, by this time, had become saturated with a mass of identical product from China, mostly aimed at reducing the price. A small range of tyre changers, wheel balancers and aligners were launched and distributed via ISN Garage Assist, a leading UK provider of a wide range of equipment and brand names. The initial success was modest, being homed amongst a huge offering of alternatives, but was nevertheless indicative of the potential. In 2025, Balco became part of the Giuliano family, resulting in the creation of Giuliano Automotive in the UK.
The team
Giuliano Automotive UK is an interesting story.
A name that many had never heard of, but whose equipment they had probably used extensively, a team of people with arguably the strongest ties to the tyre and garage equipment industry in existence, and a unique and comforting company structure (yes we know it’s a cliché, but big enough to cope, small enough to care has never been more apt!).
The story starts in 2004 when James Boon, a name associated with Garage Equipment, and more specifically tyre changers and balancers, for over 35 years, established Hofmann Megaplan UK. Having spent his early years at Balco and, subsequently Snapon / Hofmann, James decided to set up his own entity in June 2004, partnering Hofmann Megaplan, a brand of premium quality wheel balancer manufacturer Cemb SpA.
Hofmann Megaplan didn’t have an official partner for tyre changers, and recognising the attributes of Giuliano, a company James didn’t know except through admiration for their tyre machines, James chose to partner with Giuliano, who then proceeded to produce products under licence for Hofmann Megaplan.
The next 20 years saw these products establish themselves as clear market leaders, and the partnership developed between James and Giuliano was one of mutual respect and ingenuity arising from this collaboration.
In 2025, Giuliano decided to establish their own UK facility, not only to ensure a seamless service to the huge amount of customers already in existence, but also to grow their wheel balancer business. James was the obvious person to call on to help create that operation, and the concept for a UK garage equipment team was born. Recognising that people are always the greatest asset, the company appointed Industry ‘faces’ Andy Ringrose and Andy Currell, two individuals who have spent their entire working lives in the tyre industry.
Both Andys started on the floor, changing tyres and carrying out wheel alignment (or ‘tracking’ as it was back then!). A move into garage equipment was a logical progression, specifically working with tyre changing and balancing equipment, and being able to utilize their real-life experience and know-how.
James and the two Andys had worked together for a very long time, and so the dynamic and capability was proven, and provides a huge level of continuity for users of the Giuliano products, even if the badge on the equipment might say Hofmann Megaplan, Bosch, or a host of other names that were partnered with over the years.
To run the day to day, another ex-colleague was introduced, Brian Hogg. Brian, also having more than a passing familiarity with the products, has looked after the equipment requirements for large groups such as Protyre and ATS Euromaster in a previous role, and provides an important management capability to the business.
In another nice touch, Jaydn Boon, James’ son, is also in the business. Jaydn began life as an electrician, before Covid stalled his qualification process and frustration led him to learn the ropes assembling and testing tyre machines and balancers before being despatched to customers.
With a nationwide installation and service structure, Giuliano Automotive UK is perfectly placed to meet the demanding requirements of tyre shops, garages, bodyshops, allow wheel specialists, production lines, and basically anyone who uses tyre changing, balancing, alignment and lifting equipment, but who places quality and service in front of price as the prioritising factor.
We are not the cheapest. With extensive bricks and mortar facilities, premium quality Italian-engineered equipment, the best personnel, and ‘white glove’ mentality when it comes to customer service, it is impossible to be the cheapest. However, we do believe we offer the best value. Longevity, reliability, attention to detail, and the fact that the people on this business just love what they do, are all the reasons we need to assure our customers and partners of our ability.
Based in Oundle, near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, we have a fully operation showroom facility we welcome our customers to visit. We also attend most of the industry exhibitions to display our equipment and meet customers old and new.
So whether it is at our showroom, at an exhibition, or in your own premises, we welcome the opportunity for our team to guide you through the best experience, to investing in the best equipment.
